Restoring & Prepping Photographs, Slides and Drawings

August 2011
The photographs we were working with now had been chosen for how they related to the story line and had already been cited for placement according to the chapters.
Some were Dale’s drawings and maps which had to be scanned. Most were from the family albums, some from slides and few original WWII photographs.
Out if hundreds of selections we reduced them to 258 photos, about half of them B&W and half color.
Most had to have some restoration done, some had paper tears, some had water stains, there was odd green discoloration and a lot of mold with colors of grey, black and reddish-pink. A few times it was easier to replace the sky than to remove all the mold. For a face or white shirt however, the mold had to be removed pixel by pixel, so happy to have Photoshop.
