Preparing the Photos and Drawings for the Printer

November 2012
We had been working on the manuscript and photos for a while and the quality was looking good, but they were not ready for printing. Every single one had to be prepped for the printer in Photoshop. Many times the light and dark areas had to be adjusted and the contrast sharpened. They had to be re-sized to 300 dpi resolution and then saved as gray-scale or CMYK color.

We got considerable help from Laura Melendes our cover designer on the requirements of modern printers and how to accomplish these things in Photoshop. Thanks Laura!
