Harold and Thelma Jackson’s Visit

The following year Harold Jackson returned to New Guinea with his wife, Thelma, and asked if I would take them to see the Gimi tribal people where I worked. By this time the Dave Lawrence family had moved from the Watut to our Kami base with plans to join us in the Gimi work.

We set a date for their visit, received their permits and set off. They rode our two horses, while Dave and I walked with the carriers.

The second day out, we came to a group of people blocking the trail. A man standing on a large stone asked me in a loud voice, “Why are you going so far inland when we are here and want a missionary?” This question made quite an impression on Harold, because he had never before heard people ask for a missionary.
